NetLight Driver wins Building Operating Management's 2012 Top Product Award

Awards recognize the most popular manufacturers and suppliers of the year, as determined by FacilitiesNet.com readers

NEWARK, Calif. – January 20, 2012 – LUMEnergi, a leading provider of intelligent, network-controlled lighting management solutions, has received the prestigious Building Operating Management 2012 Top Products Award. This award recognizes the best manufacturers and suppliers of the year as determined by building and facility executives who were asked to select their choices for Top Products that met the criteria of innovation and usefulness to facility managers.

LUMEnergi’s team has brought deep industry experience to its NetLight™ product line, which is recognized as the most technically complete and future-ready solution to manage commercial buildings’ energy use. The Building Operating Management 2012 Top Product winner is NetLight Driver, an intelligent, universal dimming ballast that enables smart fixtures with two-way communication for T5, T5HO, and T8 fluorescent lamps while performing dynamic demand response and independent load-shedding. NetLight Driver operates in DALI or 0-10VDC control modes and takes electrical inputs from 120V to 277V at 50 or 60 Hz.

Lumenergi collaborated with Real Energy Writers and The Daily Energy Report on an informative lighting market report update

Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Lighting Report for Everyone (not dummies)

The report, Energy-Efficient Lighting Explained: A guide for business people who aren’t lighting techies put out by the RealEnergyWriters.com and The Daily Energy Report, is 44 pages of thoughtfully written, valuable and current information on the who, what, where, why and how of the value of energy efficient lighting systems for businesses. 44 pages. We read, perused, re-read and devoured it so that we could bring you the Cliffs Notes* version.

Why this report? There are a bunch of reports out there that tackle energy efficient lighting. And you can certainly guess what would happen if you looked it up on the internet. But a glut of information doesn’t mean it’s good information. The very reliable team of journalists at RealEnergyWriters.com and The Daily Energy Report decided to put current, trustworthy information into a single source to make it simple for businesses to understand the options and issues at hand in order to make the smartest and most conscientious decisions in lighting.

The skinny: Energy efficient lighting systems save money. LOTS of money. From individual homes to the largest buildings, there is money to be saved. Worker productivity increases with better lighting systems (see better, feel better about your environment, work harder,) and it’s environmentally positive, which you can feel good about and know that your customers and constituents feel good about it too.

Energy efficient lighting control is big business, booming really. And companies like Lumenergi are working to constantly innovate and implement the technology to meet the emerging standards of lighting and energy management in both retrofits and new construction. However, energy efficiency in lighting is affected by several key factors. First, politics; while not as of yet a huge hindrance to the industry, government standards of efficiency and material usage are influential. New efficiency standards will go into effect in January 2012 and government incentives (at the national, state and city level) for implementing more energy efficient lighting abound.

Finally, there is the not so small matter of wading through who is doing what in the industry. From lighting companies – making the bulbs – to lighting control companies like Lumenergi, who allow companies to control lights and respond to information from utilities about spikes and dips in energy use to save both time and resources. We encourage you to check out the report at Real Energy Writers.

Beyond hundreds of exhibitors, LightShow West puts on a series of seminars that hit on important and trend-relevant issues facing our industry. These seminars are led by some of the lighting world’s brightest minds and boldest innovators. Do I just say this because one of Lumenergi’s top advisors, Peter Schwartz led a session, The Art of Specifying for Deep Energy Savings? Not a chance. Schwartz spoke about integrating advanced lighting controls with building management systems and emerging IT technologies with the multiple goals of improving illumination quality, increasing energy grid reliability, reducing energy consumption and ultimately tapping into deep energy savings. He shared his expertise and real world experience working in the evolving world of efficiency standards, and offered his thoughts on the eventual goal of netzero operations for businesses.

Lumenergi at the EEI Fall National Key Accounts Workshop in San Antonio

Still full of Tex Mex, the Lumenergi team returned energized (pun intended) from San Antonio this week after attending the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI) Fall National Key Accounts Workshop, October 16-19. The three-day workshop is one of two that EEI puts on annually as a forum for national, chain, and multi-site energy users to tackle all of their energy-related needs. The workshop provided an ideal setting for forging meaningful and productive working relationships and for teaching and learning about new products, services and technologies. But beyond simply opening up lines of communication between businesses and customers, the workshop provides fertile ground for the exchange of ideas; including important conversation about innovation in today’s changing energy marketplace as well as tools for influencing public energy policy.

Every time we attend an EEI workshop, we leave with new ideas and new perspectives. We certainly learned that energy management, and sustainability is an increasing priority for multi-site chains. We look forward to the Spring Workshop in San Diego in March 2012

As a result of this transition, the current President and Chief Executive Officer Michael D’Amour has decided with the Board of Directors that a new CEO more aligned with the next level of business progression will be recruited. With the Board’s thanks for his service Mr. D’Amour has resigned his positions effective immediately in order to pursue other interests. The Board has appointed Lumenergi Founder, Chairman and Chief Technology Officer C.R. “Steve” Stevens as president and CEO on an interim basis. Mr. Stevens is a 50-year veteran of the lighting industry, having contributed many significant innovations to the field of lighting controls, including the precursor to NetLight™, Lumenergi’s advanced network lighting control platform.

He founded Luminoptics with Mr. Bill Alling in the 1970s to commercially develop and market dimming fluorescent ballasts and control systems, enabling higher energy efficiency and significant cost-savings. Other products invented by Mr. Stevens have seen significant commercial success and have been or are being sold by 3M, Motorola, Gulf & Western, Joseph Enterprises (“The Smart Clapper”), Bright Image Corporation (Touch Lamps), and Multisonics (Vehicular Traffic Controllers and Computers).

Mr. Stevens was part of the founding team of Motorola Lighting and served as the division’s Chief Scientist until its subsequent sale to Osram/Sylvania. He is well-known and respected in the lighting industry, where he has served as an expert witness in litigation for Osram/Sylvania, Motorola, MagneTek, Juno Lighting and Pacific Scientific. Mr. Stevens holds a degree in Physics from Stanford University and has attended the Officers Training Course of the U.S. Army.
