Barry Weinbaum
President & Chief Executive Officer
Barry Weinbaum has extensive experience in high-tech markets and venture-backed entrepreneurial companies.  He has spent more than 30 years in technology, spanning communications, nanotechnology, components, consumer products, semi-conductors, software, wireless, lighting and lighting controls systems. Lumenergi is his third venture capital-backed company and he brings an established record of leading start-up, growth and turnaround operations. Most recently, he was Vice President of Strategic Marketing at North American lighting market leader, Acuity Brands. From 2008-2010, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of LED Luminaire upstart Renaissance Lighting, leading the sale of the company to Acuity Brands. Previously, Mr. Weinbaum served as the President & Chief Executive Officer of NanoOpto, managing the early nanotechnology startup from its initial stages through strategic sale. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President and General Manager-Optical Long Haul Solutions and Vice President of Business Development of the Optical Networking Group at Lucent Technologies.  Mr. Weinbaum’s product lines gained global market leadership in a variety of product and technology areas at AT&T, including PBX and Enterprise Communications Servers, Unlicensed Wireless PBX systems, Voice Response and Optical Long Haul Systems. He helped pioneer the Computer-Telephony business which led to many of today’s Call Center and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) applications of today. He began his career as a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories and holds 2 US patents. Mr. Weinbaum received his B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics from Union College and an M.S. in Computer Science from Columbia University.

William Astary
Senior Vice President Sales

Mr. Astary is a 34-year lighting industry veteran, having most recently held the position of Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Business Development and served as a long-time member of the executive leadership team at Acuity Brands®.  His distinguished background includes various positions within Lithonia Lighting and Acuity Brands in engineering, product development, marketing and sales.  A 25-year member of the Illumination Engineering Society of North America, he also serves on the Board of Directors of the Jim H. McClung Lighting Research Foundation, and is past Director of the Robert J. Besal Lighting Education Fund. Mr. Astary is a graduate of Harvard University’s Advanced Management Program and Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Brand Management.  He received his B.S. in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his M.B.A. in International Business from Mercer University.

Susie Minton
Vice President Marketing

Ms. Minton is a lighting industry leader with over 12 years of experience taking advanced lighting control capabilities to commercial market applications. She recently managed marketing for the Controls division of Acuity Brands® and was instrumental in the alignment and integration of market strategy across numerous controls brands. Previously, Ms. Minton held various positions including Commercial Systems and Product Sales for Lutron® Electronics where she worked with building owners, architects, engineers, designers, and contractors in the effective specification, purchasing, and installation of lighting control products.  While at Lutron she took the lead in the Customer Education Department, including the management of the Lighting Control Institute, enhancing global Customer Experience, and Continuing Education programs.  Ms. Minton began her career as a Meteorology and Oceanography Officer in the United States Navy.  She is a Trident Scholar and graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland, receiving B.S. in Oceanography.  An accomplished athlete, Ms. Minton achieved 4-year All America status in sailing during her years at the Naval Academy and was a member of the United States Sailing Team during 1996 Olympic Quadrennium.  She also holds a Certificate in Human Resources Studies from Cornell University.

Andrew Savadelis
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Savadelis is an accomplished finance expert with years of experience leading strategy for commercialization stage companies in the technology and biotech industries.  Having served in the COO capacity in both public and private organizations, he brings demonstrated success in finance, operations, M&A, strategic alliance negotiations, has raised debt and equity financings, and has handled private, public and IPO financings in both growth and turnaround companies.  Mr. Savadelis has served as COO in several companies, on the audit committee and as a Board member of a public biotech company.  As CFO of AE Polysilicon Corporation he most recently worked with the Department of Energy to negotiate a $250M loan guarantee, and is responsible for the executing market capitalization by 600% to over $130M for a biotech company.  He previously managed a $2.4B cash portfolio and worldwide cash flows for Bristol-Myers Squibb.  Mr. Savadelis earned his B.S. in biology from Albright College and his M.B.A from Cornell University.

C. R. (Steve) Stevens
Co-Founder, CTO & Chairman of the BoardSteve Stevens
Mr. Stevens brings to Lumenergi over 50 years of technology innovation and deep experience in the lighting industry. Mr. Stevens co-founded Luminoptics (the precursor to Lumenergi) with Mr. Alling in the 1970s to commercially develop and market dimming fluorescent ballasts and control systems, enabling higher energy efficiency and significant cost-savings. Mr. Stevens is a prolific inventor with 42 patents issued across a wide variety of technology areas, ranging from lighting and lighting controls, communications and power systems, to aviation and traffic management systems. Other products invented by Mr. Stevens have seen significant commercial success and have been or are being sold by 3M, Motorola, Gulf & Western, Joseph Enterprises (“The Smart Clapper”), Bright Image Corporation (Touch Lamps), and Multisonics (Vehicular Traffic Controllers and Computers).  Mr. Stevens was part of the founding team of Motorola Lighting and served as the division’s Chief Scientist until its subsequent sale to Osram/Sylvania. He is well-known and respected in the lighting industry, where he has served as an expert witness in litigation for Osram/Sylvania, Motorola, MagneTek, Juno Lighting and Pacific Scientific.  Mr. Stevens holds a degree in Physics from Stanford University and has attended the Officers Training Course of the U.S. Army.

William R. Alling
Co-Founder
Mr. Alling co-founded Luminoptics with Steve Stevens and served as CEO and President of Lumenergi until 2008. Mr. Alling developed many of the concepts for using performance-oriented controllable output electronic ballasts and computerized lighting control systems in the commercial and industrial environment. He was an active participant in ANSI standards and served as President of the Diablo Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society. Prior to that, Mr. Alling was a Vice President at Universal Manufacturing Corporation, and consulting Vice President and Marketing Director and one of the founders of Motorola Lighting (now Siemens/OSRAM/Sylvania) helping Motorola capture a 22% U.S. market share of the electronic ballast market in less than 5 years. In the 1990s he was responsible for the design and production of “The Smart Clapper”. In the 1980s he was Executive Vice President of Electronics Ballast Technology (EBT) now part of Philips (Advance Transformer). Earlier he was employed as an electronic engineer for Bendix Radio and for ACF Industries a part of Singer Simulation Systems and also worked for Bill Lear at LearAvia in aircraft and helicopter operations. Mr. Alling started his career in the USAirForce and worked in England, Turkey and Greece for the US government and Bendix. He has extensive manufacturing experience in China, Taiwan, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Albert Lam

Mr. Lam has more than 20 years of high-tech startup, product and business development, engineering management, and electronic products manufacturing experience in the areas of professional HDTV/SDTV transceivers, video recording and conferencing systems, internet appliances and embedded software/hardware applications.  Prior to joining Lumenergi, he was the CTO of Amarium Corporation, a private-equity funded company focusing on mergers and acquisitions of high-tech companies in fields of Unified Threat Management (UTM) products and network security. Before Amarium, Mr. Lam founded and served as General Manager of XVD Corporation, a high-tech startup developing professional HD/SD satellite transmission products, IP-based security monitoring, and video conferencing products. From 1999-2001, he was the Executive VP of Engineering at Ravisent Technologies, Inc. producing internet appliance products and networked DVD players for consumers. Previously, Mr. Lam was VP Engineering at two startups (Optivision and Futuretel) producing coding, transmission and storage for the TV Broadcast industry. Mr. Lam started his career in the CAD and semiconductor space as engineering director and design engineer at Aptix Corporation and Cadence Design Systems.  Mr. Lam was in the Computer Science Ph.D. program at UCLA and has an MSEE degree from USC, a BSEE degree from Caltech and a Bachelors degree in Physics from Occidental College.
